Guardians for students who live overseas

Every student whose parents live abroad should have an Educational Guardian in the UK. A guardian acts on behalf of parents when they cannot be present. Guardians are welcome to attend school events such as concerts, matches and parents meetings. Most families appoint a friend or relative as a guardian, but guardians can be arranged through professional agencies.

In addition a guardian should accept the following responsibilities:

  1. To provide accommodation for the student:
    • During school holidays, half term and exeat weekends as requested by the parents
    • If the school has to close temporarily because of an emergency
    • If the pupil should need to have a period away from school due to medical or disciplinary reasons.

  2. To take decisions in emergencies on behalf of the parents
  3. To keep in touch with the student's housemaster and to ensure that he has up to date contact details.
