Guardians for students who live overseasEvery student whose parents live abroad should have an Educational Guardian in the UK. A guardian acts on behalf of parents when they cannot be present. Guardians are welcome to attend school events such as concerts, matches and parents meetings. Most families appoint a friend or relative as a guardian, but guardians can be arranged through professional agencies.
In addition a guardian should accept the following responsibilities:
- To provide accommodation for the student:
- During school holidays, half term and exeat weekends as requested by the parents
- If the school has to close temporarily because of an emergency
- If the pupil should need to have a period away from school due to medical or disciplinary reasons.
- To take decisions in emergencies on behalf of the parents
- To keep in touch with the student's housemaster and to ensure that he has up to date contact details.
