CAS (Creativity, Action and Service)

CAS is an experiential form of education i.e., learning from experience. Students must carry out activities in the areas of creativity, action and service to help the personal development of students with regards to:

  • Care and concern for others in the community
  • Encourage them to develop a balanced and healthy lifestyle
  • Make them aware of other cultures and different lifestyles and respect those differences
  • Interpersonal relationships
  • Develop their own value system
  • Encourage them to become lifelong learners

The IB holds that learning from experience is only possible through ongoing, associated and guided student reflections on activities. Such reflection means that before setting out on activity goals must be set, during the activities progress must be monitored and assessed and afterwards the students must evaluate their achievements. The IBO states that there must be a bare minimum of 150 hours of supervised activities.
