Spanish Exchange to Madrid (March 2005)

2005 saw Worth's first exchange with Colegio Retamar, a Catholic independent day school for boys on the outskirts of Madrid, and the trip was aresounding success.

From 10th to 18th March, Year 12 A level and IB students from Worth were based at Colegio Retamar, attending lessons and where possible following a similar curriculum to that which they study at Worth. Boys stayed with the families of their partner student.  Excursions were arranged each day, including trips to El Escorial, El Bolsa (the Spanish Stock Exchange), the Palacio Real, the Prado museum and a performance of The Passion of Christ.  A number of students were also involved in voluntary service, assisting at a soup kitchen which provides lunch for the poor.

"There was a very strong family atmosphere at the school and we all got on really well with our exchange partners.  We taught them how to play rugby, but they were the better footballers!  It was a great learning experience." James Palmer, Year 12

Exchange organiser, Marta Manrique, Spanish teacher at Worth said "Both students and staff enjoyed the exchange.  The total language immersion provided an excellent opportunity for the Worth students to improve their Spanish.  We look forward to welcoming Spanish students to Worth in April.”"
