The Games Department The Games Department provides the opportunity for students to take part in a whole range of sports while at Worth. We pride ourselves in being able to cater for the full range of sporting abilities and interests.
Students can represent the school in many team sports throughout the year, with sides being run at A, B and C level in Rugby, Soccer and Cricket. Athletics and Tennis are also very popular during the summer term. Worth is also keen to encourage participation in other specialist areas with successful teams representing the school in Fencing, Basketball, Cross Country, Squash and Badminton.
Matches against other schools take place every Saturday, and long-standing friendships and rivalries build up as the students move up through the school. We also enter many of the County Cup competitions which allow our teams to compete against the very best talent in the district. Many of our students go on to represent county teams and over the years we have also been fortunate to have boys represent England in their sport. In recent years, Larry Achike has competed for England in the Triple Jump winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Nick Walshe has been part of the England rugby squad and has won an England 'A' cap.
Worth has been determined to allow those with less interest and ability to get the most from their participation in games. The Multisports programme allows students to try a range of different activities and learn to enjoy the benefits that can be derived from physical recreation.
We believe that Games should be competitive, fun and for all to enjoy! A healthy body creates a healthy mind! |
