From Whiteboard to SmartBoard

Teacher with SmartBoard We are fortunate enough here at Worth to have 28 SmartBoards for use across the school. These provide teachers with the tools to create powerful, visually rich and interactive learning environments.

The SmartBoard is a large touch-sensitive screen connected to a computer. In turn this is connected to a projector which casts an image of the screen onto the SmartBoard. The benefit of using projectors mean that teachers are able to face their classes from the front as they teach, as opposed to having to work in a corner with their backs to the students.

Using SmartBoards allows teachers to incorporate information technology into their teaching. As well as showing PowerPoint presentations or video recordings, and linking to websites, teachers can also write on the boards and annotate presentations using special pens. One common use of the SmartBoard is to collate results of discussions or brainstorming sessions. In the past the white board would have to be erased at the end of a class, but now the material written on the board can be saved, printed out or emailed to students as support material.
