The Learning Resources Centre

Learning Resources Centre In additional to fostering an enjoyment of reading for pleasure, the Learning Resources Centre (LRC) aims to actively encourage students to develop research skills related to retrieval, evaluation and use of information, encouraging their independent learning throughout Worth and beyond.

The LRC offers spacious accommodation within the main study block and is open for seven days a week, including before and after school, providing workspace for whole classes, small groups or individuals undertaking private study. It is staffed by two professional librarians, assisted by a team of students, who are always on hand to help users access a wide range of traditional and electronic resources to support both their curricular and leisure interests.

LRCAs in any modern library, Information and Communication Technology plays an important part in the LRC at Worth. As well as subject-specific electronic packages, students can use the network to locate library resources, search the Internet, word-process their work and create presentations either in the dedicated IT suite or within the large study area.

All new students benefit from an introductory visit to the LRC during their induction and younger pupils regularly visit the LRC during their English lessons as part of a wider library skills programme, where they are taught how to effectively search the library catalogue and to navigate the shelves!

Talks by visiting professional authors and activity workshops are a regular and popular feature of the LRC programme, offering students an opportunity to talk to, and work with, experts in the field of teenage literature.
